This customer March - one of the many to enhance the '71 F1 scene - doesn't look that special until we realise this is Jarier's GP debut for the Shell Arnold team - the team he was driving for in F2. The young Jarier qualified 24th and last in this ex-Hahne car but finished a solid 12th. It was the modest start of a long and generally unsuccessful GP career for many second-rate teams - ranging from Shadow to Osella - lasting an amazing 12 years. Until Andrea De Cesaris, Martin Brundle and Derek Warwick broke his record Jarier had the questionable honour of having competed in more GPs than anyone else without actually winning one...

Today, at the tender age of 52, Jarier is still a driving force to be reckoned with. Now he finally knows all about winning, lately having driven a Porsche 911 GT2 to numerous victories in the French GT Championship.
